a little shell-shocked.

well. to be honest, i was cocky enough to think i’ve got american culture pinned down, and figured out. bet it doesn’t take you long to figure out how wrong i was. truth was, i got a little uncomfortable at times, and sometimes, felt a little bodoh for not knowing things. hahaha. anyways, i’m glad i came over =)

Toilets
I know they’re called restrooms. Whatever. I don’t mind that. My problem was that they have gaps between the walls of the cubicles that are big enough for people to take a peep from. Talk about voyeurism. UGH. I thought it was just the airport, but I was sadly mistaken when I found that it’s a norm even in my uni. great! ugh….!!!

Cords on buses
Lol.  Frankly, I’ve only pulled the cord ONCE to request a stop. Gah! I was wondering why don’t they use buttons, but my senior says it’s easier to just pull the cord. Weird people, but okay.

Phone plans
I hate this part. I like the free phone that comes with the plan, but I hate paying for it postpaid. I don’t get it man. Why can’t they make the prepaid cheaper than postpaid and then it’ll be easier for everyone? Like Malaysia. Isn’t that in the true capitalist spirit?

Carpets
Woo. I like this. =) Carpeted floor everywhere, and it’s just so comfy. But if it’s dirty… hahaha, good luck to you!

Cars yielding to pedestrians
I quite like this one. =) Although I feel bad for the drivers who have to stop quite a distance away to let the pedestrians walk. I usually jog a little so they wouldn’t have to wait long. They’re usually very nice, and some people would smile at you too. =)

Huge stores & huge stuff.
The Walmart and Target stores here are HUGE. wow!  My parents and I were like sakais when we saw it. And then our eyes gleamed with greed as we wandered around. But the problem was, I couldn’t find the right size  for my stationery organizer. they were either too long or too big. =( Guess Texas isn’t the only one that has big stuff.XD

Waiters & Waitresses
Well, for one, they have a smile on their face. Two, they can talk your ears off. And they are so uber friendly and helpful.XD I like them. =) TGIF back in Malaysia does the same thing, but seeing it all the time when you’re here kinda makes you feel so pampered and wanted.XD

To go or for here?
No more “takeaways” or “ta pau” or “bungkus”. Lol. It wasn’t so hard to get used to it. Oh, and the to-go packs, are awesome! If you’re taking away drinks, then they give you fresh ones, meaning they won’t pour your unfinished drinks into a to-go cup. And the to-go packages are HUGE. wow. I’m still amazed really. XD Oh man, I’m craving for more chicken fried chicken.yummy! it’s huge. About 10inches long. XD

Dry-erase & Pronged folders & Accents
Stationery here are named differently. =/ Dry-erase markers are whiteboard markers and pronged folders use paper fasteners instead of the long plastic strips that we normally use back home. O.o Accents are highlighters. My vocabulary is enriched somewhat. XD
